One Home - Five Generations on East King Street
A Proud Tradition of Shopkeepers in Malvern, PA
In 1909, my mother Anna's grandparents immigrated from Italy and purchased their first home on East King Street in Malvern. The small cottage attached to their home became a shoe maker and repair shop, serving the people of Malvern until the business relocated to what is now the Malvern Saddlery. Anna Vendetti Novelli was raised with her siblings in the home attached while her parents rented the cottage as an apartment. In 1947, my grandparents, Tony and Laura opened Venditti's Market, selling everything from hand dipped ice cream to hoagies that were a big hit in the neighborhood. Over the years, as the cottage was rented their home next door stayed in the family.
In 2002, my dream came true when we bought the little cottage and my mother's childhood home. Living and working in the same home with my family, I opened The Picket Fence specializing in gifts, home decor, jewelry and fashion accessory boutique filled with unique hostess and teacher, wedding, bridal shower and bridesmaids gifts.
While East King Street is in the midst of a major transformation with new boutiques, restaurants and luxury apartments - it was a good time to give
The Picket Fence a new party dress. With new branding, new website and a store renovation, I am happy to say we are still The Little Shop with Big ideas.
